Airport Mini Storage Units

Storage & Packing Guidelines

  • Leave access space in front of your unit, and keep your frequently used items where you can easily reach them. The two things people most frequently return for are clothes and files; We recommend you label these things and keep them towards the front of your storage unit
  • If you are going to access some of your stored items on a regular basis, be sure to place them in the front of the storage unit
  • Stacking uniform size boxes helps maximize your available space; Don't stack higher than you can comfortably reach
  • Place heavier boxes on the bottom with each box stacked on top getting progressively lighter in weight
  • Mini-Storage BoxesUse large boxes for light items and smaller boxes for heavier items
  • Small boxes are suggested for books which should be packed flat to protect their spines
  • Store high value items toward the back of your storage unit in unmarked boxes
  • Protect furniture, including mattresses and box springs, with plastic covers, and stand on end
  • When storing tables, if possible, remove the legs so that you can stand the table top vertically
  • Store sofas, couches and tables on their ends (not recommended for sofa beds, however); Place an old sheet or plastic on the floor underneath the sofa to further protect the fabric or leather
  • If storing a dresser or chest of drawers, use the drawers as additional storage space; Pack lightweight items into the drawers to maximize the storage space and minimize the area you need
  • Remove or fold the handles on lawnmowers and other garden equipment; It is important that you drain all gasoline out of a tool before storing it!
  • Use wardrobe boxes to hang clothing, draperies and other fabrics so that they can breathe while in storage
  • Draw a simple map of where everything is located when placing your items into storage; Keep the map along with your lease so it will be handy when you need it
  • Label everything and keep a written inventory along with your locator map
  • When storing bulk records or documents plan on utilizing shelving or file cabinets to maximize your storage space and easy access
  • When storing a vehicle we suggest use of a plastic or water-resistant fabric cover to minimize exposure to the elements; Also be sure to secure your cover with straps or bungie cords
  • Refrigerators, freezers and washers are perfect for storing soft items such as linens, towels & clothing
  • Wrap dishes and glassware individually, and pad the box with packing paper or bubblewrap. It's best to store plates on their sides
  • Take special care when packing mirrors, windows and screens; Mirror packs or strong cardboard help prevent damage
